Shoreham Village School is located in the heart of the Darenth Valley – an area of great geographical significance. We will provide all pupils with a high-quality geography education that will inspire curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Teaching will equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. As pupils progress, their growing knowledge about the world will help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments. Geographical knowledge, understanding and skills provide the framework and approaches that explain how the Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time. We will inspire pupils to enjoy and be curious about Geography and to leave us with a deep understanding of the geography of their local area and how this connects to their learning about the wider world. The curriculum for geography aims to ensure that all pupils:
Pupils begin their Geography journey with us during the Early Years Foundation Stage and the starting point of our curriculum design includes the area for learning development of ‘Understanding the World’. The curriculum we deliver in Reception lays the foundations for the learning that will take place in subsequent years.
