Physical Education

Many pupils arrive at Shoreham Village School with well-developed fine and gross motor skills.  We provide a high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect which are embodied in our whole school values.  By the end of KS2, all pupils will have represented the school against other schools in a range of competitive sports.

The curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives.

Pupils begin their PE journey with us during the Early Years Foundation Stage and the starting point of our curriculum design includes the area for learning development of ‘Physical Development’.  The curriculum we deliver in Reception lays the foundations for the learning that will take place in subsequent years.

Sports Events

At Shoreham Village School we pride ourselves on giving pupils opportunities to try and take part in many different sporting events.  This could either be within school or at events organised by the Sevenoaks Sports Partnership.

Some recent sporting events our pupils have participated in include: Triathlon; Netball coaching and match play; Tag Rugby coaching and match play; Tag Rugby Festival; District Cross Country; Speed Stacking Festival; Aqua-Splash; Girls’ Football tournament; Futsal; Water Polo; Infant Agility Year 1; Infant Agility Year 2; Kemsing Football Tournament; Year 5/6 Hockey; Year 3/4 Tennis; Kwik Cricket; KS1 Rapid Fire Cricket; Yr 3 Athletics Competition; District Sports; KS1 Heptathlon; Yr 5/6 District Swimming Gala; Football League and Tournament; Love to Dance; Chance to Dance and Sailing.

In order for us to provide these opportunities we are very grateful to all the parents and carers who have helped at the events and provided lifts to get the children to them. Without your help and support the children would not be able to have these experiences.

We have also been awarded the PLATINUM SPORTS MARK AWARD for the 3rd year running.  Through the Platinum Award, we show where the school is in its engagement with the evolution of the School Games. We had to evidence what it takes to show that we are a fully engaged and committed school.

Pupils participating in our Sports Events will be expected to follow our school Sports Code of Conduct below.
