Welcome to Shoreham Pre School !
At Shoreham Village Pre-School we recognise the immense importance that parents attach to choosing the best possible care for their children. With that in mind, we pride ourselves in providing a happy and secure environment with only the best care and attention for your children.
Following our 2010 Ofsted inspection we were delighted to receive an overall grading of good with outstanding features for setting and curriculum and are happy to quote the following from our report :
"Staff work extremely well as a team and take collective responsibility for the care and education of the children. The setting is extensively resourced and staff maximise the use of resources to promote children's learning opportunities. The preschool provides a wide range of enjoyable activities which sustain the children's interest. Subsequently, children are making good progress towards achievement of the early learning goals and developing skills for the future "
Situated in the grounds of Shoreham Village Primary School children are cared for by experienced, qualified and CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked staff. The ratio of staff to children is 1:4 children for 2 years olds and 1:8 children for 3-5 year olds with each child being assigned a “keyworker” member of
staff. However, in order to provide a nurtured and intimate setting we only have 16 children on our role call at any one session.

At Shoreham Pre-School we work within the framework of ‘The early years Foundation stage’ using a combination of a mix of child-initiated andadult-directed learning. Children are freeto choose activities such as dressing-up, drawing, jigsaws, sand play, painting and construction and other more adult-directed activities include action songs, finger-rhymes, story-telling, making and moving to music, listening games, board games, physical games and obstacle courses, crafts, nature, cookery and outings.
We also have regular joint activities with the children from the village primary school. In the lead up to moving to school we work closely with the Reception Teacher and school to make the transition as smooth as possible. This involves spending time in 'Barton Class' , joining school events and of course our ongoing program of joint playtimes in the playgound.
As a village setting we value the relationship we have with the community and the children become involved with all sorts of village life from visiting the local farms to joining in with the Village Fete.
Shoreham Village Pre-School is a not-for- profit charitable organisation, run by very dedicated staff and a Committee made up of volunteering parents who all take positions of responsibility. That means simply that what comes in goes out on : rent, utilities, salaries, etc, with nothing left over at the end. Therefore, we have to be very proactive as a group in our fundraising efforts in order to keep the children in the fun and stimulating environment that the staff provide.
All parents are welcome to join the Committee and most choose to help with the various events we organise i.e. Halloween Party, Stalls at the Village Fete, Christmas Bazaar, etc. Not only is it a way to get involved with your child’s education but has been a fantastic opportunity for parents to get to know each other before their children enter main stream school.
We hope you will feel encouraged to pay us a visit and see for yourself what Shoreham Village Pre-School has to offer your child.
