Shoreham Village Primary School

Learning today for tomorrow’s world

Our School Curriculum

The Curriculum

The curriculum is all the activities that we organise in order to promote learning, personal growth and development. It includes not only the formal requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum, but also the range of opportunities and co-curricular activities that the school organises in order to enrich their childhood experiences. We teach a 'creative curriculum' which is designed to engage and inspire all learners and stimulate curiosity, independence and  a love of learning.  There is planned progression in all curriculum areas and whilst some subjects are taught discretely, a cross-curricular approach is used whenever possible to enhance knowledge and understanding.

There is an emphasis at Shoreham Village School on the 'hidden curriculum', or what the children learn from the way they are treated and expected to behave. We aim to teach children how to grow into positive, responsible people, who can work and co-operate with others while developing knowledge and skills, so that they achieve their best. We value the way in which all children are unique, and our curriculum promotes respect for the views and abilities of each individual child, as well as for people of all cultures.  All staff encourage the children to demonstrate good manners, courtesy and high standards of personal behaviour.

Our school follows the National Curriculum for England and Wales and further information can be found on the
government website.
